Muddy Mile Intensive

Bring me the business problem that keeps following you around.

You know the one. The problem you think about when you're driving home. The one that keeps showing up in meetings. The one you've tried to fix three different ways and somehow... it's still there.

Video from Scott

I explain who Muddy Mile is for, why owners often solve the wrong problem, and what I want you to leave with.

The Muddy Mile Guarantee Get the answer to your biggest business question in one day — or I’ll refund your $1,500 investment and pay you $1,000 for your time.

If you tell me at the end of the day that the problem isn’t solved, I’ll keep working with you. And if we still can’t get you there, the guarantee kicks in.

The Real Problem

You're working harder than ever. So why does the business still feel stuck?

You're overwhelmed. You're putting in the hours. You're making decisions all day long. And at the same time, there are things in the business that just don't seem to move.

Okay, so what's going on?

Most owners immediately assume they need to work harder. Or hire someone. Or generate more leads. Or replace someone. Or buy another system.

And I'm not saying any of those things are wrong. They might be exactly what you need.

But what if you're working really hard on the wrong problem?

That's where things get expensive.

Scott Todd
Think About This

If you spend the next 90 days solving the wrong problem really well... what did you actually accomplish?

That's the muddy mile. There's activity. There's work. There's revenue. There may even be growth. But somehow it still feels like the wheels are spinning harder than the business is moving.

You think you need more leads.
What if the leads you already have aren't converting?
You think you need another employee.
What if nobody knows who owns the decision?
You think your team needs to move faster.
What if every decision still has to come back through you?
What I Mean By The Muddy Mile

You got through startup. That's a big deal.

You've got customers. You've got revenue. Maybe you've got a team. Maybe you've built something that, from the outside, looks pretty successful.

But then something changes. The things that got you here aren't necessarily getting you to the next place.

The visible problem might be real. It just might not be the real constraint.

Signal 01

Everything depends on you

You leave for two days and decisions stop. That's not necessarily a people problem. It may be a decision problem.

Signal 02

The same work produces different results

One person does it and it works. Another does the same thing and it falls apart. Okay, why?

Signal 03

Things happen because someone remembers

That's not a system. That's memory.

Signal 04

You have data but still don't know what to do

If the reports don't help you make a decision, you don't necessarily need more data. You need visibility into the right thing.

How It Works

You’re stuck. I call it the muddy mile.

And if that’s where you are right now, and you want an actionable day focused on getting unstuck and beginning to move the needle toward where you want the business to be, this one-day intensive is for you.

Here’s what the day looks like.

01

I’ll give you some homework

Before you get here, I’m going to give you some homework. Nothing complicated. But I do want you thinking before you walk into the room.

02

I’m going to ask you to dig deep

I want you to tell me what you believe your biggest problem is. Not ten problems. The one that keeps showing up and getting in the way.

03

I’ll think about it before you arrive

I want time to think about what you send me before we ever sit down together. That way, when you get here, we’re not starting cold.

04

I’ll show you how I approach problems

When you’re here, I’m going to walk you through how I look at problems, how I separate symptoms from the real issue, and how I decide what deserves attention next.

The Important Part

The problem you bring may not be the problem we solve.

You might show up and say, “My problem is marketing.” Okay.

Then we start looking at it.

And maybe marketing isn’t the problem at all. Maybe your marketing is generating opportunities, but your follow-up is inconsistent.

That’s a different problem.

Or maybe you say, “I need a better team.” Okay, what does that mean?

Maybe every decision still runs through you. So you hire more people and now you have more people waiting on you.

Congratulations. You made the traffic jam bigger.

See what happened?

Why I Start With The Problem

Before we start fixing things, I want to make sure we’re fixing the right thing.

That’s why I want you thinking about the problem before you arrive. I want to understand what you believe is happening so we can test it together once you’re in the room.

What I Want You To Leave With

Let's make this simple.

I don't want you leaving with 47 pages of notes. You know what happens to those.

They go into a folder. The folder goes on a shelf. And six months later you find it and think, "Oh yeah, I was going to do that."

That's not the goal.

The problem you actually need to address
One clear priority
A written 30-day action plan
A decision about what you're going to stop doing
A clearer understanding of where your time belongs
The next logical step
Because clarity should change what you do Monday morning. Otherwise, what was the point?
Who This Is For

Muddy Mile is built for business owners with something real at stake.

You have customers. You have revenue. You've built something. And there is a problem in the business you know you can't keep ignoring.

This is probably for you if:

  • You've been operating long enough to have real data and real problems
  • You're dealing with a specific issue you want to solve
  • You're willing to consider that your first diagnosis may be wrong
  • You have the authority to make changes
  • You're willing to do the required pre-work
  • You're willing to talk honestly about what's happening

This probably isn't for you if:

  • You want to sit quietly in the back and just take notes
  • You want basic startup training
  • You want a bunch of generic marketing tactics
  • You want someone to tell you what you want to hear
  • You want a done-for-you solution without participating
  • You want a motivational day that feels good but changes nothing

The Investment

Is one day worth $1,500?

Fair question.

But I think there's another question that's probably more useful.

What is the problem costing you if you keep solving it the same way?

Maybe it's money. Maybe it's time. Maybe it's a team you can't trust yet. Maybe it's a decision you keep postponing. Maybe it's the fact that you can't really step away from the company.

So don't compare $1,500 to eight hours. Compare it to the value of getting the right problem in front of you and having a plan to do something about it.

Scott Todd — business operator, author, and host of Fix My Business.

Why I Built the Muddy Mile Intensive

I’m Scott Todd.

I spent years as a Fortune 500 VP of IT before I left corporate America and started building businesses of my own.

I went on to build three seven-figure companies.

And look, that sounds great when you say it that way.

What you don’t hear in that sentence is that I also came pretty close to losing everything along the way.

That experience changed the way I look at business problems.

Because what I began to realize was that most business owners aren’t stuck because they’re lazy. They’re not stuck because they don’t have enough ideas. And usually, they’re not stuck because they’re unwilling to work.

They’re working plenty.

The problem is that they’re often working on the wrong problem, or they’re solving the right problems in the wrong order.

That’s a very different issue.

And once I began to see that pattern, I started building ways to think about a business differently. Frameworks that help me slow things down, look at what’s really happening, and figure out what deserves attention first.

That work eventually led me to something I started calling the muddy mile.

It’s that uncomfortable middle ground where you’re no longer a startup, but the business still hasn’t become what you know it could be.

You have revenue.

You have customers.

Maybe you have employees.

There’s activity everywhere.

But you still feel stuck.

I built the Muddy Mile Intensive because I want to help business owners get through that part.

Not by giving you another pile of ideas.

By helping you figure out what you actually need to fix next.

A Little About My Background

I hold an MBA, a degree in accounting, and a post-graduate certificate from MIT.

I’m also an author and the host of Fix My Business, where I spend a lot of time doing exactly what we’re going to do in this room: looking at business problems, questioning the obvious answer, and figuring out what’s really getting in the way.

But the credentials aren’t really the point.

The point is that I’ve been the person sitting there wondering:

“Okay, why isn’t this working?”

And I’ve spent a lot of years learning how to answer that question.

That’s the work I want to do with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few things you may be wondering.

No. The intensive is open to business owners regardless of where you're located. The event itself is held in person in Florida. If traveling in makes sense for you, you're welcome to apply.
Sales. Marketing. People. Operations. Profit. Leadership. Owner dependence. Deal flow. Execution. Strategy. Look, the category matters less than the fact that it's a real problem that matters to your business. And you don't have to diagnose it perfectly. That's kind of the point.
I'm intentionally not publishing the detailed agenda. Part of that is because I want to protect the curriculum. But there's another reason. The day isn't built around me delivering a generic presentation every hour. It's built around diagnosis, discussion, problem-solving, and action planning based on the businesses represented in the room.
Because I don't want to waste your time. I want you thinking seriously about the problem before you arrive, and I want time to think about what you send me too. That way, when we sit down together, we're not starting from zero. Simple.
No. There's no long-term commitment required. It's one focused day. Now, could there be opportunities to continue working together afterward? Sure. But that's not required.
Great. Maybe you're exactly right. But I still want to test it. Because if you're right, we've validated the problem and can move into what happens next. And if you're wrong? Well, finding that out before you spend another six months on it is probably useful.
Founding Cohort

I'm starting with a small room because I want to do this correctly.

My initial goal is six business owners. Not because six is some magical number. It's not.

I want enough people in the room that you get the benefit of other perspectives. But I also want enough time to actually work on the businesses represented there.

If you want to join us, the next step isn't complicated.

If You're Still Thinking About It

What is the problem in your business that you keep coming back to?

Not the ten problems. The one.

The one you keep talking about. The one you keep putting energy into. The one that still isn't really solved.

How confident are you that it's actually the problem?

That's what Muddy Mile is about. Bring me the problem. We'll slow it down. We'll look at what's actually happening. And we'll figure out the next logical step.
